Deep Diver

“How Deep Can I Go?” This is the number one question I receive when certifying an Open Water Student. The answer is 60 feet. Once you complete the Advanced Open Water Course you can go to 100 feet. But, if you want to be able to dive to your recreational limit of 130 feet then you will need the Deep Diver Certification.

Deep Diver

“How Deep Can I Go?”

This is the number one question I receive when certifying an Open Water Student. Here are your depth limits based on level of certification.

  • Open Water – 60 feet
  • Advanced Open Water – 100 feet
  • Deep Certification – 130 feet

The answer is 60 feet. Once you complete the Advanced Open Water Course you can go to 100 feet. But, if you want to be able to dive to your recreational limit of 130 feet then you will need the Deep Diver Certification.  In the photo, this Brittle Star landed on my hand at exactly 129 feet when diving the Oil Rigs in Long Beach

What Do I Learn?

The Deep Diver Course is one of the most important classes for any student to take. The course exposes you to the dangers of diving deep and more importantly, the solutions to dive deeper more safely. You are learning:

  • How to plan and organize a deep dive
  • Affects of Narcosis at depth
  • Air consumption changes based on depth
  • Alternate Air Use at depth

Where Do We Go?

Deep Certification is a 2 day certification.  The first day we go to La Jolla Shores and get to explore the canyon wall.  This area is filled with fun and interesting marine life.  Day 2 we go to Catalina Diver Park where you can now dive on four different wrecks:  The Suejack, The Glass Bottom Boat, The Kismet, and The Dive Platform.  Each has been transformed into a underwater reef and now plays a critical role in the ecological system.

How Do You Use Magic to Teach this Class?

If you have never taken a class from Chef Anton, you are in for a treat.  Chef includes magic in all of the dive briefings as he explains what is needed for the certification.  Then underwater, he will entertain and amuse you during your safety stop with his critically-acclaimed Scuba Magician It-Ain’t-Magic Tricks.  Truly an experience of a lifetime.  You will always remember this class.
