Imagine this…

A simple ring and a separate ring are both handed out for inspection.  You place the ring on the spring and begin to turn the spring so the ring rotates from one end to the other and then you remove the ring from the other side.  When the spectator tries to duplicate the effect, they find the ring cannot come off the spring.  With a magical gesture, suddenly they can remove the ring.
